The past few weeks have brought about many new programs and rankings within the online MBA world. These new programs are giving prospective students more choices and more flexibility as they pursue the next step in their career. The past month has brought three new online MBA degrees for students to choose from, programs from the University of Maine, the University of West Florida, and Simmons College.
Also available for the prospective MBA student is a new MBA ranking from Payscale.com. There are hundreds of programs for prospective students to research to find the right fit. Rankings can be incredibly helpful because they can provide quantitative data associated with programs to help students make their choice.
New Online MBA programs
The University of Maine
Beginning this fall, the University of Maine's Maine Business School started offering an online MBA program, The Essential MBA, to add to their current business graduate offerings. The Essential MBA is an AACSB-accredited, 30-credit hour program that can be completed exclusively online or in a hybrid format. This program is designed to provide students with superb leadership, management, and analytical skill sets with a background in finance, accounting, and global engagement for the competitive work environment.
The University of Maine is a four-year, public university in Orono, Maine. UMaine was originally established as the Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in 1862 and today offers 90 undergraduate, 70 masters, and 35 doctoral programs to over 11,000 students every year.
The University of West Florida
The University of West Florida's College of Business announced its new 100% online MBA program that will be starting in October of this year. This 33-36-credit hour online program will offer a general MBA curriculum, as well as an MBA with emphases in Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Supply Chain Logistics. This AACSB-accredited MBA program will be delivered with the same rigor as the on-campus program and can be completed in as little as two years.
The University of West Florida is a four-year, public university in Pensacola, Florida. UWF was established in 1963 and today offers over 45 undergraduate, 25 master's, and one doctorate degree to over 12,000 students annually.
With a host of uproar from media and alumni, Simmons College has closed down their full-time MBA program for women and will soon be offering an online version of their MBA. Simmons College's School of Management will provide an AACSB-accredited, 54-credit hour program designed for women's career and leadership success. Students will be given the option of choosing one of five concentrations to tailor their degree: Entrepreneurship, Financial Analysis, Health Care Management, Marketing, and Nonprofit Management.
Simmons College is a four-year, private, nonprofit college sitting in Boston, Massachusetts. Simmons was founded in 1899 to offer liberal arts education to undergraduate women. Today, Simmons offers undergraduate and graduate programs to over 4,000 students every year.
New MBA ranking
Payscale.com, the world's largest online crowdsourced salary database, released their annual College Salary Report. The report includes college rankings for associate, bachelor and graduate level degree programs at over 1,000 colleges and universities. Payscale offers a ranking for over 200 schools offering MBA programs, with many offering online programs. Knowing that possible salary and return on investment is only one factor when choosing the right MBA program, Payscale states that "armed with information on earning potential after graduation, students can create a path to a career that fuels their dreams, as well as their bank accounts."
